India has the comparative advantage of its intellectual capital and it can become a global platform for research and development, Pankaj R Patel, CMD of Zydus Cadila, said at the inaugural function at a two-day long international scientific symposium, dedicated to various aspects of drug discovery, on Thursday at the research and development centre of the company.
Patel emphasised on the need for better exposure to international standards through such symposiums and announced that in order to promote the scientific and technical interactions between various academic institutions and industries in India, Zydus Cadila is committed to organise such international symposia biannually.
The symposium, being held under the aegis of Ramanbhai Foundation, has over 400 delegates from across the country, apart from 20 reputed research scientists from renowned pharmaceutical companies, institutes.

The symposium will comprise four main sessions dealing with medicinal chemistry, separation technology, pre-clinical and clinical developments, patents, ICH guidelines and business development.
The most recent advances such as role of PARs in metabolism and cell physiology, the future in chiral resolutions, new paradigms of drug discovery and evolving paradigms of pre-clinical drug development processes will be explored and dealt with during the symposium.
