'93 Blasts: Second batch of judgement today

A special TADA court has held Mohammed Shoaib Ghansar guilty of planting bombs at Zaveri Bazaar in the 1993 serial blasts.

He has been persecuted under various sections of TADA and Indian Penal Code including conspiracy, murder and attempt to murder.

"He may face punishment ranging from five years to life imprisonment or even death," Ujjwal Nikam, special public prosecutor said.

The bomb planted by Ghansar had exploded at 3.05 pm on the fateful day killing 17 persons and injuring 57 others. Property worth Rs 1.20 crore was damaged.

Updated at 1100 hrs: The TADA court, hearing the 1993 serial blasts case, is scheduled to pronounce its verdict on the involvement of those charged with Zhaveri Bazar blast and other accused that killed a total of 257 and injured 713 others.

The first verdict will be delivered by Judge P D Kode on accused Muhammed Kasam Ghansar who is charged with parking an RDX-laden scooter that exploded on March 12, 1993 killing 17 people and injuring 57 others.

If found guilty, Ghansar would face punishment ranging from five years to life imprisonment and even death, according to special public prosecutor Ujjal Nikam.

The court is also likely to hear arguments on the quantum of punishment to be awarded to the four guilty members of the Memon family.
