India and China should pursue a line of cooperation as it could be a win-win situation for the two countries which can mutually expedite economic development, Wang Donghua, Chinese Consul General in Mumbai, said today.

“Cooperation will not only benefit China, but also India. If we pursue a line of cooperation, it could be a win-win situation for both,” he said on the sidelines of a photo exhibition ‘Charming Beijing’ in Bangalore, to mark 60 years of diplomatic ties between the two countries.

Wang said the economic potential was “unlimited” if both countries decide to cooperate and forge ahead.

Both were among the fastest growing economies and at almost the same stage of development. “Considering the size of the population and market, the potential for cooperation is unlimited and future prospects bright,” he said.

The two largest developing countries have a wide range of common interests, he said. “By cooperating we can benefit from each other’s strengths” and mutually “expedite economic development” and contribute to the world favourably in terms of development. “If we can work together, there is nothing we will not be able to achieve,” he said.

Wang described as ‘unique’ ties between India and China, saying leaders of both countries had adopted a forward looking strategy to promote relations and economic cooperation. On the present import hurdles faced by some Chinese telecom equipment firms following security concerns in India, he said these companies were trying their best to strengthen economic ties between the nations. “They have achieved a lot and contributed to India even in terms of employment,” he said.

Speaking on the occasion Veeranna Mathikatti, chairman, Legislative Council, said the two nations must work together and understand each other and go ahead in larger interest.

Nearly 60 photographs capturing various facets of Beijing were displayed at the exhibition, organised by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China and Indo-China Friendship Association, Karnataka.
