'India on cusp of economic transformation'

As the world economy recovers from the meltdown and collapse of some of the global financial giants, India sits on the cusp of an economic transformation and development.“Today is the unprecedented time to be in India as it offers a mine of opportunities in the services sector, especially Information Technology and telecom,” NASSCOM chairman and Genpact president and CEO Pramod Bhasin said addressing the ‘Samvit 2009 – The Leaders’ Conclave’ at the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIML), recently.

The theme for the conclave was ‘Emerging Pillars of the New Indian Economy’.

He said there were ample opportunities to participate in the globalisation of services for the Indian companies, but the entrepreneurs should learn to ‘take risk’. “The global banking collapse has also given an opportunity to develop products and services to address the needs of the future financial sector,” he added.

 

Bhasin noted that broadband could bring about a revolution in India, if all the villages and towns were connected and this was an opportunity for the private sector to excel with innovation. He said now we needed to go beyond mobile phone and use this platform for offering a host of other value added services, such as giving information about agriculture, industry and job. He also suggested “sub-urbanisation process” for taking pressure off the metros
