'No water, no vote', say Palam electorate

Amid a 'no water, no vote' call, the Bahujan Samaj Party has promised 'Bijli, Sadak and Paani' (BSP) to the voters of the Palam area in South Delhi Lok Sabha constituency.      

Accusing Congress, which has represented the area both in the Lok Sabha and the Delhi Assembly for several years, of not paying heed to the genuine grievances of the people of Mahavir Enclave, BSP leaders blamed sitting Congress MP Sajjan Kumar and Congress MLA Mahabal Mishra for the negligence.      

The BSP leaders assured the voters at a meeting last night that the party would ensure availability of drinking water within three months of its candidate getting elected to the Lok Sabha.      

BSP has fielded Kanwar Singh Tanwar in the newly created South Delhi Lok Sabha seat and considers the 9,500-odd voters of Mahavir Enclave and its adjoining areas as its vote bank as the area is represented in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by a party leader Sudeshwati.      

Tanwar promised provision of clean drinking water to the Mahavir Enclave area after local residents threatened that they would boycott the May 7 polls if no water was made available to them in the scorching summer.      

Local BSP leader Madan Mohan Dass told the electorate that he would sit on a hunger strike to ensure that the colony got proper supply of piped drinking water.
