Outsourcing to India would be hit due to the ongoing slowdown in the US economy, said US Charge d' Affaires Steven J White.

Speaking to the media after inaugurating the consular services at the Consulate General of the US here on Tuesday, he said the demand for US visas was softening in India in view of the slowdown in the US economy. “The demand (for visas) would increase when people start spending,” he said without specifying a time frame for the demand to rebound.

The US would continue to cap the number of visas to be issued in India at 65,000 per annum. The demand for H1 B visas was likely to increase following the bailout packages announced by the Obama government. “The US is going through difficult times. It is a matter of concern for the trade communities both in the US and India,”' he said, adding slowdown would not impact the activities of the US Mission to India.
