Tackling climate change has potential to generate many 'green jobs' particularly in areas such as biodiversity preservation, carbon management and wind and solar power generation in the country, government said today.
Besides, vast majority of 'green jobs' in the country will come from managing natural resources such as water and land as well as waste management, State Finance Minister Namo Narain Meena said in a written reply to a query in Lok Sabha.
He said that the National Solar Mission, as a part of National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) has been approved, which proposes to add 20,000 MW solar energy by 2022.
"The fund requirements for the Mission would be met from budgetary support and international funds under discussion at the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)," Meena said.
Further, at least 1,482 CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) projects under the various sectors including wind, biomass and forestry have been awaiting approval from the UN body that would facilitate any investment of Rs 2,11,065 crore, he said.
