The country has enough wheat stocks and the rise in domestic prices is not significant, said cabinet secretary KM Chandrasekhar. "There is no justification for rise in prices," he said. The government would import 1.3 million tonne of wheat this year. About 5.5 million tonne of wheat were imported in 2006. According to government estimates, the country's wheat output in 2007 is expected to be around 74.9 million tonne, up from 69.3 million tonne last year. |
