The Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) has constituted 19 special teams to inspect around 330 multi-storeyed buildings in the city.

Each team will have three officials from different fields and would start inspecting constructions soon, said sources.

Meanwhile, realty developers body the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Associations of India (Credai), said it would be volunteering a special task force including academicians and professional engineers to assist the government in its investigation.

“The task force includes academicians from reputed institutions, experts from related fields and professional engineers. The task force will analyse and evaluate the reasons for the mishap and suggest quality and safety guidelines for all members,” Credai said in a release on Wednesday.

According to earlier reports, the building collapse at Maulivakkam was due to weak construction.

It was also alleged that the building was constructed in a place where there was watershed.

On Sunday, soon after the building collapsed, the Chennai police arrested the builder and his son along with architects and the structural engineer.
