Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) today said over 4.8 lakh Indian tourists visited Hong Kong during the eleven-month period ended November 2010, up 47.2 per cent from the same period last year.

"Increased awareness of Hong Kong among Indian consumers as well as expanded flight capacity between India and Hong Kong have both accelerated the growth," HKTB said in a statement.

The destination also saw an overall growth of 22.5 per cent in the number of tourist arrivals to 3.2 crore from across the globe during the period as against the same period last year.

Hong Kong saw maximum tourist arrival from South and South-East Asian countries, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand and Singapore.

The country received three visitors from the region, an increase of 23.6 per cent as against the same period last year.

"Owing to stabilising economic conditions, greater travel propensity and promotion of Hong Kong by the travel trade, arrivals from such markets as Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia sustained an upward trend in both November and January-November 2010," the statement said.
