Chhattisgarh launched Chief Minister Naya Raipur Housing Scheme Monday to provide roof to some 40,000 families belonging to economically weaker section (EWS) and low-income group (LIG).

Under the scheme that was seen as a New Year gift for the people, housing units would be constructed in the Naya Raipur---the upcoming new capital city of Chhattisgarh. The move is also aimed to populate the Naya Raipur where people are still hesitating to settle. Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh said that under this scheme, Naya Raipur Development Authority (NRDA) will provide land to the state-owned Chhattisgarh Housing Board at a nominal rate of Rs 1 per sq feet. The online booking under the scheme started from January 1.

The officials informed that the online booking facility would be available for three months on "first come first serve basis". These houses will be constructed with pre-cast technique. Like other colonies of Naya Raipur, the colony constructed under the scheme will also be equipped with all sorts of basic facilities like road, electricity, water, school etc.

Singh said the scheme would be valid only for the Year 2015. Under the scheme, LIG houses worth Rs 7 lakh would be available at Rs 6 lakh and EWS houses priced at Rs 5.5 lakh would be available at Rs 4 lakh.
