The ministry has fallen short of its production targets by 12 per cent, though in comparison with April-July 2002 there has been a growth of 9.84 per cent.
Production for the 49 PSEs, which include engineering, non-engineering and consultancy units, for April-July 2003 stood at Rs 2,534.85 crore, while the target set for the period was Rs 2,870.65 crore.
The PSEs which met or exceeded their targets were Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL), B &R (Bridge and Roof Company), Hindustan Cables Ltd (HCL), Hindustan Newsprint Ltd (HNL), Hooghly Printing, Hindustan Paper Corporation (HPC), Hindustan Photofilms Ltd (HPF) and Instrumentation Ltd Kota (ILK).
The production of the 23 engineering units under the ministry during April-July 2003 stood at Rs 1,945.70 crore, 11.5 per cent short of the target but 9.66 per cent higher than what was achieved in April-July 2002.
The nine non-engineering PSEs notched up a production of Rs 360.08 crore, which is 16.17 per cent higher than the same period last year but 19.42 per cent lower than the target set.
Only the five consultancy units, with a production of Rs 229.07 crore, managed to exceed targets by nearly three per cent for April-July 2003 and notched up a 2.48 per cent growth over the same period last year.
