43 new trains introduced

Offering sops to passengers in the election year, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad proposed to introduce 43 new trains as he unveiled the Interim Rail Budget for 2009-10 today.

While four new Garib Raths were announced, three Rajdhani Express trains and one Shatabdi Express were also proposed to be introduced in the mini-budget.

The Bhopal-Lucknow Garib Rath Express (weekly), Ajmer-Bhagalpur via Delhi Garib Rath Express (bi-weekly) Jammu Tawi-Darabhanga Garib Rath Express (weekly) and Sitamarhi-Delhi Garib Rath Express via Patna were the new Garib Raths. Railways are currently running 19 Garib Raths.

While Guwahati has got two Rajdhanis -- one passing through Bhagalpur and another connecting Muzaffarpur, the third new Rajdhani will be Nizamuddin-Bangalore via Kacheguda (tri-weekly).

 

Railways have proposed to introduce a new Shatabdi train -- Agra-Lucknow Shatabdi Express.
