633 villages notified for Ganga Expressway

Besides, 132 other villages coming under the tentative alignment of the expressway and already notified by other departments and development authorities will also be included in the project after consultations.

The proposed expressway, the flagship project of the Mayawati government, has been awarded to the JP Group through a bidding process.

Meanwhile, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee, has been asked to do a detailed environmental impact assessment of the project, which will form the basis for issuing the final No Objection Certificate (NoC).

 

On January 24, a letter of award was issued to JP Associates Ltd for the implementation of the project. The company was required to incorporate a special purpose vehicle (SPV) and sign the concession agreement within 60 days.

JP Ganga Infrastructure Corporation Ltd (JPGICL) was incorporated on March 18, and on March 23, a concession agreement was signed between the Uttar Pradesh Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) and the JP Group company.

According to the agreement, the UPEIDA will acquire land for the project, but will negotiate for the best compensation to the land owners and farmers.
