"There is a clear lack of awareness on detection and treatment of cancer among the patients. Also, many of the patients do not have access to cancer care", she said.
She was speaking at the World No Tobacco Day, being observed by the Hemalata Hospitals and Research Centre in association with the Bhubaneswar branch of the Indian Medical Association.
Dinshaw pointed out that 30 per cent of the cancer cases are linked to tobacco consumption and the incidence of tobacco related cancer cases is on the rise.
She also touched upon cervical cancer which accounts for about 25 per cent of all cancer cases and is mostly caused by infection of the human pappiloma virus.
Tata Memorial Hospital is constantly conducting research on various aspects of cancer and around 30 per cent of the hospital's total annual budget is earmarked for research, claimed Dinshaw.
