A year of reforms, but outcomes yet to show

Returning to the finance ministry after four years, P Chidambaram was to steer the economy out of the mess it was in. However, the rupee's decline and a dismal growth rate have not let the outlook brighten. Since his return to the finance ministry, the BSE Sensex has gained 2,088.32 points, or 12.1%. During this period, RBI has lowered the repo rate by 75 bps. A snapshot of the economy under Chidambaram in his current term:
