Absence of funds to hit plan for bio-diversity

These constraints arise from lack of adequate financial resources and lack of progress on technology transfer and cooperation, he said at the recently-concluded G-8 environment ministers meeting in Kobe, Japan.

He asked the member developed countries in the 1992 Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to fulfil their commitments.   

"We would urge our developed country partners to fulfill their commitments in accordance with the principle of common but differentiated responsibility and respective capabilities," Meena said.   

 

The Minister said India was working towards "ensuring fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising out of the use of genetic resources," one of the three objectives of the CBD and hoped that talks were completed successfully at Conference of Parties on CBD in 2010.
