However, it is learnt that Achuthanandan wouldn't be at the helm of the prestigious home ministry. While Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, another party veteran, stands a chance to be named home minister, LDF convenor Paloli Mohammedkutty might get the education portfolio.

It may be recalled that Mohammedkutty's name was also doing the rounds before the elections. At a time when Achuthanandan was denied candidature for the polls, he ultimately led the LDF to an astounding win. The final list of ministers is expected to be out in two days' time.

This is the first time Achuthanandan gets a chance to sit on the CM's chair, though his political resume makes him the most powerful man in Kerala politics.

The old war-horse had missed the bus on three occasions earlier despite the fact that he was the front-runner for the post.

It is a sweet comeback for the man who was snubbed by his own party in the early stage of the poll process.

He proved he had the general public behind him by securing a seat first and then later on posting an astounding win to be the only choice as CM before and after the party bosses in Delhi and Thiruvananthapuram sat down for deliberations.
