Adani bets $20 billion on green energy, takes on Reliance Industries

The target now pits the port-to-power behemoth against global giants

Adani Enterprises will invest $20 billion (Rs 1.48 trillion) over 10 years in the renewable energy supply chain, including power generation, manufacturing, transmission, and distribution. The announcement on investment size comes after Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) in June launched its foray into green energy with a Rs 75,000-crore investment in the coming three years.

Gautam Adani, chairman, Adani Enterprises, on Tuesday said the company would triple its renewable power generation capacity over the next four years. Adani currently has 12.5 Gw of installed and 7 Gw of a planned thermal power capacity.
