The Adani group plans to develop a commercial, multi-purpose terminal at Dahej, in Gujarat's Bhrauch district. This will be close to the existing state-of-the art chemical port of the Gujarat Chemical Port Terminal Company.

Also on the cards is an industrial park to be developed by the Gujarat Industrial Development Corporation.

The Adani group was awarded the letter of intent (LoI) by Petronet LNG Ltd on August 27. It plans to set up a special purpose vehicle at the site, with Petronet LNG having 26 per cent equity and the rest held by the Adani group and its strategic partners.

"The experience of the Adanis in handling the Mundra port (the state's first successful private port venture) will definitely give a boost to activities at Dahej," said a senior official of state ports department.

"The multi-purpose terminal at Dahej will cater primarily to the south and central parts of Gujarat and western Madhya Pradesh. Dahej offers distance advantages over competing ports in the region," said a spokesperson for Gujarat Adani Port Ltd.

The award of LoI to the Adanis by the Petronet LNG opens up new vistas in the area of port development with Adani focusing on bulk terminals and PLL on LNG terminals.

"This structure, in effect, reduces the investment and risks for each partner individually, at the same time ensuring the best practices are incorporated in port development and operations by concerned parties," said the Adani Group's official spokesperson.

Meanwhile, for the feasibility study for the industrial park has been completed. GIDC has already acquired the land and built up necessary infrastructure.
