The Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society scam has taken a new twist after a secretary of state Urban Development Department filed a written complaint with the Marine Drive police station of Mumbai last night that key papers related to the society were missing. Police have registered a case of theft.

“We have registered a case against unknown persons. According to the urban development department officials, several papers from the 10 files on Adarsh society were missing,” DCP Cherring Dorje said.

The missing paper includes signatures of two ex-chief ministers and senior officials, environmental clearance given by the urban development department, clearance to reduce road width, clearance for the building to encroach on road space, and clearance for construction of additional floors. The file notings relate to the period 2000-2003.

The disappearance of the papers was brought to the notice of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is investigating the multi-crore scam.
