Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha LK Advani here on Friday urged the Centre to give all assistance to the flood-hit region in south Gujarat.

"The floods have caused a lot of damage to life and property. The local industries have suffered huge losses. I urge the Centre to immediately announce a relief package for the region," Advani said after visiting flood-hit areas of the state.

Accompanied by Chief Minister Narendra Modi, Advani also visited a relief camp in Udhna and met flood victims.

Advani praised the people for braving weather and helping officials in rescue and relief work.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had been apprised of the situation by Modi, Advani said.

The state government would assess the damage caused to the small and medium industries in the region and announce a package in the next few days, Modi said.

Modi had yesterday sought a three-year moratorium on repayment of principal amount of current central loans and waiver of the interest of this amount for one year.
