Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday sought Rs 40 crore for the purchase of a new aircraft and Rs 400 crore for an unemployment dole, while presenting a supplementary budget of around Rs 7,112 crore for the current financial year in the legislative Assembly.
Yadav, who also has the finance portfolio, also asked for Rs 170 crore to expand and modernise airports and airstrips.
Facing criticism for the recent communal riots in Muzaffarnagar and the handling of the incident, he also asked for Rs 100 crore to make the necessary arrangements for the coming Lok Sabha election. On the list was Rs 109 crore for election photo identity cards, electoral rolls and pending dues for the 2012 Assembly polls.

In the supplementary Budget presented on Wednesday, there was an allocation of Rs 15 crore for a Rural Institute of Medical Sciences in Saifai, Etawah district (native village of the chief minister), Rs 8.55 crore for purchasing land for an All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Rae Bareli and Rs 75 crore for making payment of sugarcane dues.
On February 19, the state government had presented an annual budget of Rs 221,201 crore for 2013-14, an increase of 10.5 per cent over 2012-13’s Rs 200,110 crore. For 2011-12, the annual budget’s size was Rs 169,416 crore.
In the supplementary budget, non-Plan and Plan heads account for Rs 4,193 crore and Rs 2,919 crore, respectively.
The supplementary budget contains a provision to settle dues amounting to Rs 250 crore of NTPC against power purchase; Rs 100 crore to UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) as subsidy for loss; and Rs 226 crore to UPPCL for revenue loss. About Rs 22 crore would be used against energy consumption bills of powerlooms.
