The Asom Gana Parishad today said it will stick to its alliance with BJP and will support none other than L K Advani as the next Prime Minister of the country.
"There is no question of helping UPA or Third Front in forming a government. We want L K Advani as the next Prime Minister of the country," AGP President Chandra Mohan Patowary told PTI when asked about his party's stand post-results.
The AGP had fought the just-concluded Lok Sabha polls in Assam in alliance with the BJP but is yet to formally join the NDA.
The AGP highest policy making body — the steering committee — will meet in Guwahati on May 17 and take a decision about its future course of action.
"We have not joined the NDA yet. The AGP steering committee will take a decision on our strategy on May 17," Patowary said.
However, Patowary had participated in the May 10 NDA rally in Ludhiana.
The AGP has two members in the outgoing Lok Sabha and several exit polls projected the regional party to get at least four seats out of Assam's 14.
"The AGP-BJP alliance has swept the polls which will be reflected in tomorrow's results," he said.
The AGP is contesting in six constituencies while BJP has fielded candidates in eight seats.
