With the suicide of farmers in various parts of the state rocking the state Assembly, the Orissa government today announced the appointment of an ‘Agriculture Commission’ headed by S M Patnaik, a retired administrator. The committee has Dr Sudhakar Panda (economist) and Niranjan Panda and D P Ray (vice-chancellor, OUAT) as members.
It will analayse and suggest measures to the state government for qualitative improvement in agriculture within the next 6 months. This was announced by the state agriculture minister Dr Damodar Rout in the assembly. The terms of reference (ToR) for this committee will be announced soon, he added.
