Agritech Asia to expose farmers to new technology

In a bid to expose farmers of the state to the latest technology for better agriculture output, the Industrial Extension Bureau (iNDEXTb) of Gujarat government has organised an exhibition Agritech Asia, and extension of Agritech Israel, from September 3-6 later this year.

This exhibition is also in run-up to the 6th edition of Vibrant Gujarat Summit (VGS) to be held in January 2013.

"There is a need to promote inflow of knowledge with regard the agriculture technology in order the maintain the remarkable growth achieved in agriculture sector by Gujarat," managing director of iNDEXTb, Mukesh Kumar said. "There is also need for right strategy to maintain the agriculture growth rate of 10 per cent which has been the average for Gujarat over the past decade," he added.

 

Talking about objective of the Agritech Asia exhibition, Kumar said that the event would expose farmers of Gujarat and other parts of the the country to a plethora of new technologies and best practices from across the globe.

Joint Secretary of National Committee on Plasticulture Applications on Horticulture (NCPAH) Krish Iyenger said that advanced agriculture technology was the need of the hour and for that knowledge sharing was must.

Speaking about Gujarat's performance in agriculture sector, Iyenger said that it has performed much better than other states during the 11th Five Year Plan.

"Gujarat has raised the bar of standards not only for the state but also globally in terms of agriculture growth," he said.

Over one lakh farmers are expected to visit the exhibition where more than 150 exhibitors from India and countries like Israel, USA, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Malaysia, Argentina and Spain are going to display their technology.

Agritech Asia will exhibit latest developments in agro-technologies in the fields of irrigation, water management, greenhouse cultivation, new seed varieties, machinery, equipment, organic agriculture and others.
