Air-passenger traffic dips 1.94% in Jan-Oct: Patel

The domestic air-passenger traffic declined by 1.94 per cent during the January-October period this year, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

"The domestic passenger growth in the country declined to negative 1.94 per cent during the period January to October, 2008," Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said in a written reply to a question.

Patel said that the passenger traffic grew by 46.5 per cent and 32.5 per cent in the calender years 2006 and 2007, respectively.

The airline carried 55.39 lakh passengers in during the period against 81.26 lakh, 69.03 lakh and 67.85 lakh passengers in 2007, 2006 and 2005, respectively.

 

Replying to another question, Patel said that the market share of Air India declined to 16 per cent in the January-October period this year. The flag carrier had cornered 18.8 per cent, 21.1 per cent and 30.4 per cent market share in 2007, 2006 and 2005, respectively.
