Former Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) chairman and 1967 batch Indian Adminstrative Service officer Ajit Nimbalkar took charge as the chief secretary of Maharashtra from today in place of V Ranganathan who retired on Monday.

Nimbalkars appointment assumes significance as he has effectively superseeded eight other IAS officials in the state administration, including Mumbais municipal chief Karun Srivastav and former state home secretary Habibullah.

Nimbalkar enjoys a very good rapport with both the lead partners in the Democratic Front government in the state.
