The agriculture ministry has urged the Planning Commission to substantially raise investment in the farm sector in the Tenth Plan.
Agriculture minister Ajit Singh today told the steering group on agriculture and the allied sector for the Tenth Plan that in order to achieve the overall economic growth of 8 per cent in the next Plan, the growth rate in the farm sector will need to be stepped up significantly.
He said more budgetary support would be needed in areas like irrigation, rural roads, research and development, electricity, watershed management, rural communication, post-harvest management and marketing and knowledge infrastructure.
