Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Tuesday held talks with key private sugar mill owners here to ease the impasse in the state sugar sector. A meeting is scheduled for Wednesday with Chief Secretary Jawed Usmani. The closed-door meeting took place in the evening and later, the millers proceeded for a private meet to discuss the emerging situation. Later, Yadav was also said to have discussed the sticky issue at length with senior government officials. The outcome of the meeting was not clear. However, it is expected that the government would offer some sops to the sugar industry for this crushing season. Meanwhile, the Muzaffarnagar district administration filed a case against the promoters of Triveni and Dhampur sugar mills for suspension of operations, an official source said.
