Akhilesh seeks Rs 7,500 cr from National Calamity Contingency Fund

Claims Centre has not sanctioned any relief amount after on-spot inspections

BS Reporter Lucknow

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking Rs 7,543 crore for distribution as relief to the state's farmers hit by unseasonal rains and hailstorm earlier this year.

There had been massive damage to standing crop during February, March and April due to the unexpected weather conditions.

Yadav has sought the Centre's assistance from the National Calamity Contingency Fund (NCCF) without any further delay.

In his letter, he claimed the Centre had not sanctioned any relief amount after on-spot inspections by the central team on the basis of the latest NCCF criteria.

Meanwhile, the state said it had distributed over Rs 3,446 crore for providing relief to about 8.4 million farmers out of its own resources.
