The previous Delhi government may have been criticized for "high" power tariffs, but almost every household in the state had access to electricity in 2012.

According to a report  derived  from 69th round of National Sample  Survey Office (NSSO) released today, 99 per cent  household in urban Delhi had electricity in 2012. The report covered a survey carried  out between July-December, 2012.

At all-India level, 97.9 per cent of urban households had access to electricity.

Delhi largely comprises urban parts.

However, Delhi lagged behind Goa, Mizoram, Sikkim,  Dadra  & Nagar  Haveli, Daman & Diu, and Lakshadweep, where every household in urban parts had access  to electricity.

The data suffers from  lacunae in the sense that it does not say how  many hours  in a day electricity is supplied to these households.

Aam Aadmi Party carried a surcharged campaign against  the Sheila Dikshit Government for  higher electricity tariff. The party, which has now been invited to form the government, had promised to cut the tariff by 50 per cent, after carrying an independent audit of power companies. End
