Ambika Soni inaugurates tourist complex at Attari-Wagha international border

The minister of tourism and culture, Ambika Soni, has inaugurated a tourist resort, Aman Umeed Bhawan, at Attari-Wagha international border in Amritsar.

The complex has a built up area of about 10,000 square feet with facilities for domestic as well as foreign tourists, and in particular from Pakistan. Soni said that the flow of tourists from across the border will help in further promoting peace between the two countries.

She added that tourism has vast potential for employment generation and will provide opportunities for youth to work in the sector.

She also said that the centre will provide all help to establish a convention centre in the State. The Aman Umeed Bhawan project is fully funded by the ministry of tourism, government of India which has provided the grant of Rs 123.69 lakh for the development of this resort.

 

Amritsar has also been provided financial assistance from the ministry for other projects like the integrated development of Amritsar with the financial support of Rs 482.80 lakh earlier, which consists of the components of environmental upgradation of many areas in Punjab.

The city has also been sanctioned grant of Rs 1585.53 lakh for a mega project in this financial year. Amritsar has been identified as one of the mega destinations out of the twenty two identified by the ministry of tourism in the country for integrated development.

The State has been assisted by the union ministry of tourism by Rs 4802.32 lakh during the Tenth five year plan and by Rs 1983.42 in the first two years of the eleventh five year plan.
