The US President Barack Obama has said the image of the United States under his presidency has improved worldwide.

"I haven't looked at the latest polling around the world, but I think it's fair to say that the response that people have had to our administration and the steps we have taken are ones that are restoring a sense of confidence and the ability of the United States to assert global leadership," Obama said at a news conference yesterday night.

In the run up to his election campaign, Obama and the Democratic party leadership had alleged that the wrong policies of his predecessor George Bush, specially the two wars, had brought down the image of the US in the world and made the country more unsafe.

Obama and his team had vowed to improve the image of the US after coming to power.
