Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) Managing Director B M Vyas is believed to have resigned, amid a controversy over cancellation of two board meetings.

Sources said Vyas, who headed the Rs 8,000-crore company, has resigned. They added that he did not mention a reason for quitting.

Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation sells products under the brand Amul.

Vyas could not be contacted despite several attempts.

His resignation comes in the wake of controversy over cancellation of two board meetings which could not be held due to a lack of quorum as a fallout of internal bickering.

Some members of GCMMF want its Chairman, Parthi Bhatol, to step down as well, but Bhatol is determined to complete his second term.

Two successive board meetings of the federation convened on May 4 and 25 this year to pass the financial results for 2009-2010 and discuss the budget for the next year could not be held due to non-quorum.

With a network of 13 district cooperative milk producing unions engaging 30 lakh dairy farmers in 12,000 villages of the state, GCMMF has a daily average milk collection of 8.7 million litres. It clocked a turnover of Rs 8,007 crore last financial year.
