Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has asked district collectors to closely monitor the rescheduling of loans to farmers, who have lost their crop in the recent rains. He said the government had already announced interest waiver for them till November and would follow it up for December.
Interacting with the collectors through a video conference, he pointed out that some banks were not aligned with the thinking of extending more loans to farmers. Such banks should be identified and corrective measures be initiated, he said.
The farming community had been hit by four successive rains, he said, asking the banks to make up for the shortcoming in the lending for this rabi. The Food Corporation of India and the miller are relaxing the paddy procurement norms to ensure that there is no value cut for the farmers for the decolourised paddy.
The state government has also approached the Centre to provide an additional 50-day work in villages that have completed 100 days work under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. Also, the government has urged banks to provide more loans to self-help groups to ensure they do not go private money lenders.
Reddy said there would be time-bound plans for taking forward the Indiramma housing scheme and extending social security pensions to the needy. He asked the collectors to keep Monday as grievance redressal for the people to come and represent their issues.
