Chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy said he would undertake ‘surprise visits’ to villages from the coming Dasara (September 26) to see how various government schemes were being implemented and also to study the problems in villages.
Addressing the inaugural session of the two-day district collectors conference here on Friday, Reddy said permanent helipads should be built in all the 1,100 mandal headquarters for his official chopper to land so that he could visit villages without prior notice.
He asked the collectors to focus on providing safe drinking water in villages, encourage farmers to go for crop insurance, monitor the prices of essential commodities and streamline the disbursal of farm loans.
Reddy wanted the collectors to be accessible to the people every Monday and the representations received from the public should be posted online along with details of the action taken.
Stating that his government would not tolerate corruption, he directed the collectors to act firmly against corrupt employees. “The toil of the poor people comes to us in the form of taxes. There has to be accountability and transparency in spending,” Reddy said, adding he would not entertain any mercy petitions related to corruption.
