The Andhra Pradesh Assembly today hailed the Supreme Court's interim order permitting four per cent reservation for backward class Muslims in jobs and education in the state.

Chief Minister K Rosaiah informed the Assembly that the apex court on March 25 stayed the High Court verdict which nullified the four per cent reservation.  Expressing happiness over the court's order, the chief minister reiterated his government's resolve to ensure reservation for backward Muslims.

Leader of Opposition N Chandrababu Naidu also welcomed the apex court order and asked the government to further argue the case effectively.

"The UPA government can take the support of NDA in this regard like it did in the case of women's reservation bill," Naidu said.

Majlis Ittehadul-e-Muslimeen floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi, while hailing the SC order, wanted the Centre to implement the recommendations of the Ranganath Misra committee on Muslims.

He thanked the state government for its efforts in securing a stay on the High Court verdict.

BJP member Kishan Reddy said the economically- backward in all castes should also be extended reservation facility and not just Muslims.

PRP, CPI, CPM and Lok Satta Party also welcomed the Supreme Court order on the Muslim reservation issue.
