The government has decided to impose anti-dumping duty on zinc oxide imported from Nepal. The product is reserved for the small-scale industry.
In the final findings of the investigation, the directorate general anti-dumping and allied activities, has said that the anti-dumping duty would be the difference between the landed value and the specific rates mentioned in the notification which ranges from $ 1,372.11 to $ 1,413.60.
Specific rates have been mentioned in case of six Nepalese exporters. Preliminary investigation in the case was notified by the directorate general anti-dumping and allied activities on August 6, 2001, following a petition filed by three Mumbai-based companies supported by All India Zinc Oxide Manufacturers Association. and some other producers of the commodity.
Zinc oxide is on the open general licence for imports and attracts 35 per cent customs duty. Zinc oxide is used in the manufacture of automobile tyres and other rubber goods and manufacture of high purity zinc chemicals such as sulphate chlorite etc and is also used as an input for the ceramic industry and as a supplement in animal feed formulations.
