Anti-Theft Laws Gain Favour Among States

Anti-theft laws are gaining favour among states. While Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh have already put such laws in place, West Bengal is the most recent, with a provision for booking state electricity board officials who collude with consumers in stealing power. Delhi, with its newly privatised distribution companies, is also working on an anti-theft law. In West Bengal, 2,922 raids have been carried out since the legislation came into effect on July 15.
