Y S Rajasekhar Reddy, the leader of the Congress Legislature Party in the dissolved Assembly, was one of the major stake-holders of AP Carbides.

AP Carbides, with its unit located in a 70-acre plot at Kurnool on NH-7, used to produce carbide products initially, and later switched over to ferro alloys production before it was shut down in 1983.

After acquiring the unit, Bharat Alloys has invested Rs eight crore on refurbishing of the plant, construction of 132 kva sub-station for the power intensive unit and on pollution control equipment.

The unit will start producing ferro silicon, one of the ferro alloys, with a capacity of 1,500 tonne per month. The unit at full capacity utilisation will consume 18 mw of power.
