Cement producers in Andhra Pradesh are finding it difficult to maintain a remunerative price despite continuous efforts by the manufacturers association to effect price hikes.

Though the prices went up by about Rs 5 a bag to Rs 125 for A grade brands in the first week of March in Hyderabad, the major consumption centre in the state, they again have fallen back to the February-end level of Rs 120 a bag.

Sources in the industry said that unsustainability of price increase was due to absence of rise in demand coupled with higher supplies to market. March being the last month for the current fiscal, most of the major companies are trying to push more quantities to shore up their topline.
