Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has requested the Union IT ministry to locate one of the proposed semiconductor fab facilities in Andhra Pradesh.

The chief minister addressed a letter to Union Minister for Human Resource Development, Kapil Sibal, who is also in charge of Communication and Information Technology portfolio, to this effect on Saturday.

Reddy’s request comes in the wake of a recent proposal mooted by the IT & communication ministry for promoting two fab facilities to augment the growth and development of electronics and hardware industry in the country.

The Centre’s move has revived the hope of the state government. AP had set up a 1,200-acre Fab City project on the outskirts of Hyderabad when the Union Ministry came up with a similar offer during Maran’s tenure. However, the project remained a non-starter though some of the solar photo voltaic manufacturing companies were given land in the same location.

Offering this readily available infrastructure, Reddy said the state had a well-developed ecosystem for semiconductor and hardware industry.
