The Government of Andhra Pradesh has bagged the prestigious 'Bio State of the Year' award for its pro-active initiatives to promote the biotech sector in the state, and create a world-class infrastructure in Genome Valley.
The first-ever biotech industry awards were instituted by Biospectrum, a Bangalore-based exclusive biotech journal.
Andhra Pradesh was adjudged the best among all the states in the country for its initiatives to draw investments, and involvement of the state leadership and the officials in promoting the biotechnology industry.
BP Acharya, the secretary of industries and commerce, who is spearheading the biotech activities in the state, accepted the award on behalf of the government from an eminent scientist, MS Swaminathan, at a function held in Bangalore on December 20.
In his acceptance speech, Acharya stated that the award would inspire the state in its pursuit of excellence in creating a world-class biotech cluster, and providing an enabling environment for the industry to grow.
