AP signs MoU with Isro for telemedicine

The Andhra Pradesh government today signed an MoU with the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) for establishing telemedicine network in the state.

According to an official release, under the MoU, Isro will provide satellite bandwidth for an initial period of two years. Telemedicine is the use of communication and information technologies with medical sciences for providing specialist consultations to patients located in remote and rural areas. 
 
The Andhra Pradesh telemedicine network will be established in two phases, covering eight nodes consisting of Osmania General Hospital, Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences, MNJ Institute of Oncology and LV Prasad Eye Institute besides district hospitals at Anantapur, Kakinada, Sri Venkateshwara Institute of Medical Sciences, Tirupati, and Mullapudi Harishchandraprasad Hospital, Tanuku, with the complete support from Isro. Phase II will be taken up by the state government, the release said.
