A Slum Rehabilitation Authority akin to the Mumbai model will be soon constituted in Andhra Pradesh to make urban areas of the state slum free by 2014, according to chief minister, Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
The chief minister, who held a review meeting on Indirama housing and urban housing for poor on Tuesday, asked the officials to come out with a strategy and blueprint to solve the housing problems in the cities of Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada and in other major towns in the state.
Reddy, according to an official press release, was not happy with the progress of urban housing for poor in Hyderabad. He wanted the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, Municipal Administration, Urban Development and Housing departments to come out with a concrete plan to complete construction of the houses taken up so far.
