Chief minister Rosaiah to write to the Centre
Chief minister, K Rosaiah, has decided to write to the Centre to set up a second major port and shipyard in the state.
A decision to this effect was taken on Wednesday when chairman of National Shipping Board, PVK Mohan, informed Rosaiah that the Centre was looking forward to set up another major port and shipyard in the country.
Rosaiah held discussions with Mohan and CMD of the Visakhaptanam Port Trust Ajeya Kallam.
According to an official release, the chief minister is going to request the shipping ministry to inspect a suitable land in the state for the proposed project and the state will hand over the required land.
Mohan was stated to have informed Rosaiah that a second major port and shipyard would be in the best interest of the state since it has a 975-km long coast. The project would also generate jobs for over 25,000 people.

Following this, Rosaiah told the officials concerned not to “leave this opportunity and see that it is set up in our state.”
The state is also expected to introduce the AP Maritime Board Bill in the next Assembly session. The draft bill has already been approved by the state cabinet. It provides for appointment of port facility security officer at each operating port, responsible for the overall security of the port.
50 IT cos setting up shop Rosaiah said there was no slowdown in investments in the IT sector in the state with 50 information technology companies coming forward to set shop since January, this year.
Over 1.8 million sft was sought by these companies, he said while inaugurating a one-day workshop on e-Governance Leadership jointly organised by the IT departments of the Centre and the state. “The state is putting its best efforts to become number one in the country permanently,” he said.
