The much-talked about compromise formula between litigants in the Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi title case might not happen as the Sant Uch-adhikar Samiti, a group of 45 Hindu religious leaders, is expected to announce that the entire area of the disputed shrine in Ayodhya belongs to Ram and not to any individual or organisation.
Members of the Sant Uch-adhikar Samiti are scheduled to meet in Ayodhya on October 20. This is the third time since March this year that religious leaders would meet and come out with their views on the title suit of the disputed shrine. The Samiti is considered as the highest authority on the Ayodhya issue within the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and several akharas in Ayodhya.
“There are going to be two major decisions this time at the meeting in Ayodhya. The first decision would be that the entire land of the disputed shrine in Ayodhya belongs to Ram Lala and not to any individual or organisation. The second important announcement that can be expected is that we will not allow the construction of any new mosque within a radius of six kilometers from the disputed shrine,” said Giriraj Kishore, the senior-most leader of VHP.
Interestingly, this is the first time that the Sant Uch-adhikar Samiti would officially define the “religious boundary of Ayodhya.” So far, the religious leaders along with VHP have maintained that they would not allow construction of any new mosque in the religious boundary of Ayodhya.
“There is a parikrama surrounding the garbh griha (central dome of Babri Masjid) which is six kilometers away from the disputed shrine. The saints who will meet in Ayodhya are expected to announce that they would not allow construction of any new mosque within this six-kilometer radius. As it is we believe that the judgement of the Allahabad High Court will not be acceptable to anyone, including the Muslims. At least the verdict is not acceptable to us. I don't think there is any need to hold talks with any community. Talks have not succeeded so far and it will not yield results in future as well,” added Kishore.
Religious leaders of the Sant Uch-adhikar Samiti have already announced that Ayodhya is the birth place of Ram and they want control of the disputed shrine as well as the 67 acres of land that are currently with the government for the construction of a grand temple.
