The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) is eyeing port-based areas like Gangavaram, Machilipatnam, Kakinada, Nizampatnam and Vodalarevu to set up industrial estates.

APIIC has already begun scouting for land in these places, according to APIIC chairman Ambati Rambabu. APIIC also plans to develop industrial estates with gas deposits, particularly at Razole, Nagaram and Amalapuram in the Konaseema region, he said.

Speaking to mediaperons, Rambabu said that APIIC was trying to acquire 28,000 acres near Gangavaram port in addition to the existing 9,200 acres.

He said 1,325 acres would be acquired in Peddapuram, Sarpavaram (Kakinada), Velugubanda, Tanuku and Tadepalligudem areas to develop industrial estates.

"The state government is committed to developing Kakinada industrially and is keen on launching gas-based units in the area. APIIC has decided to acquire 400 acres of land in and around Rajahmundry," he said.

The government would create infrastructure in the area and shift the existing rolling mills and aluminum industries from the city to the industrial estates soon. An extent of 112 acres has already been acquired near Velugubanda of Rajanagaram mandal in East Godavari district.

He said APIIC would cancel the purchase agreements with those firms that acquired plots/lands and failed to set up any industrial units within the stipulated period by enforcing regulations.
