Around 225 Agriculture Produce Market Committees (APMCs) of Gujarat closed their operations today protesting the centre's move to bring them under the income tax net. "Operations in all APMCs of the state have been closed today following the central government's decision of imposing 33% income tax on earnings of APMCs," Naran Patel, MLA and president of Unjha APMC told PTI. He said the earnings of the APMCs are used for the benefit of farmers and should not be taxed, adding the agitation will be intensified in the future if their demands are not met. |
